Tea Time @ Coffee Club, Kinokuniya KLCC

It was a tiring day, had done my big shopping at Isetan KLCC, headed myself to Kinokuniya Book store to past my time after browsing some magazines and my favorite Art-DIY books.

I remember there's a coffee place inside this bookstore. Since I had a chance to hangout at the place.. unlike normal work days, where on earth I would have a time to hangout in KLCC, relaxing and past time like yesterday.

So, I ordered a cup of Latte (RM7.20) and head myself to a cushion sofa at the far corner in the coffee store. It's located upstairs of the book store, basically the top most of Suria KLCC, overlooking the park!

Just in case you would have time spare in KLCC, this is a good place for you to take a break. Less crowd... enjoy coffee and magazines too. :)

Aiks... what's this below??? Can you find this in KLCC???
Hehehe... sorry, this is meant to attract someone out there, all the way staying in the Kiasu-land now.

Food Surprises - Fish Head Noodle @ Woo Pin Fish Head Restaurant, Taman Desa

Taman Desa is a new place for me, I have never ever been to this place before, I might just get lost if I were to get there on my own. Hubby been telling me about this place couple of months back, but we have no excuse to drive 30+KM from home to this place, just to taste its famous fish head noodle.

Today we finally had the chance, since we were on the way heading to KLCC.

This particular restaurant seems to have 2 different names. You might easily get caught by the shop name, to those who're unfamiliar like me.

1) Woo Pin Fish Head - obviously serving only fish head noodles, believe only opens day time
2) Ho A One Seafood Steamboat - obviously serving steamboat, believe opens at nite

The servings has variety as below. Unfortunately, they were running out of fish paste when we arrived. Anyway, my favorite is still those with fried fish fleshes.

New - Chill out @ Quattro's Spring Lounge, Avenue K

This was the first time ever we stepped into this Bar. Remember it was a Friday when we colleagues headed ourself to Public Bank to collect our credit cards after lunch at Avenue K. We passed by this place with its cool theme bar. It has 4 seasons themed restaurants - Winter, Autumn, Spring, Summer.

So, one fine Wednesday, a friend suggested to chill out at this place. Apparently, they have Happy Hour at the Spring Lounge. Cool place indeed, with overlooking bus traffics along Jalan Ampang, as well as 'human' traffic crossing the street from KLCC or other nearby office building heading towards the underground LRT station. Of course, with such good view of KLCC.

That nite was rainy, just before we left, the place was wet and about to splash on to me. Lucky me, the place has well equiped adjustable blinds to ease the splash.

It has 'cool' chairs, but the drawback was they are lil small and crowd up the place, especially when we ordered a full pan of pizza as snacks.

Overall, not too bad for a place to hangout for happy hour.

Pork Porridge @ USJ SS14

This is not something new, or a place which I just been for the first time. Can't remember how many times I have been there. Each time when I crave for pork intestine porridge, I will surely come here. Of course, the best porridge is still the one at Petaling Street.

This bowl of porridge serve as small portion, cost RM4.00. Just nice for me to finish it on my own, which I find it good. This particular Restaurant or so called Hawker Center draws crowd to taste its porridge as well as Char Kuey Taew. Besides, there is a portable van selling Yau Char Kuey just next to the restaurant, heard it sells good and nice Yau Char Kuey too.

DIY - Apple Cider (苹果醋) / Vineger The Making

This is to share with you, the making of fruit vinegar. In fact, it does not have much difference from fruit enzyme making. Basically, it require an additional ingredient, which is rice or brown rice vinegar.

Below are some making methods, extracted from some Chinese websites.








The making of Apple Cider

  1. 1) Wash apples and make sure its been air dried.
  2. 2) Cut apples into slices.
  3. 3) Place layer of apples slices into a jar, add on brown sugar or rock sugar layer by layer (1kg apple to 4oc of rock sugar.
  4. 4) After fragmented, probably 2-3 weeks, it will turn into enzyme and further on liquor. Sieve apple out, keep it for up to 1-2 year to turn it into vinegar.
  5. 5) To enhance vinegar making process, you could add on brown rice vinegar after the juices being sieved away from the slices of fruits.














Lemon Vinegar / Apple Vinegar The Making


Lemon (kg) : Vinegar (bottle) : Rock Sugar = 3 : 3 : 3

Apple (kg) : Vinegar (bottle) : Rock Sugar = 3 : 3 : 2


  1. 1) Wash and dry lemon/apple. Slice (with skin) and place them in a jar
  2. 2) Add rock sugar
  3. 3) Add vinegar
  4. 4) Close the jar and place at cool dry place for 30 days

DIY - Wheat Noodle with Pork Chop

After having peppermint choco as tea, I then had this simple noodle dish as my 1pax dinner. Assumed it must be much healthier than having Maggie Mee or Ibu Mee as my dinner.

I defrosted the pre-marinated pork chop from the freezer in less than 20min. Prepared the following ingredients for my noodle. It is a very simple dish, except for the chopping of garlic into small pieces :)

Kind of agree with what stated in this blog - http://www.penangfaces.chanlilian.net/wheat-noodle/, I noticed so far this is the best wheat noodle (长寿面)I ever bought, and best part it is made in Malaysia, and I presume Melamin free! The noodle is "spaghetti-a-like" but more egg-tasty.

Ingredient : Wheat Noodle, garlic, dark soya sauce, light soya sauce, sugar, Sarawak pepper, seseame oil

Preparation :
1) Chopped garlic into small lil cubes
2) Place garlic in a bowl, add sugar, dark and light soya sauce at your taste, as well as slight Sarawak pepper and sesame oil. Mix well.
3) Boil water, place noodle sticks till it gets soften
4) Seive soften noodle and get them through a sieve and cool water

Here you go... my dinner !
I hope the pork-chop does not looks ugly... like what usually mention in Cantonese drama - 猪扒 (Zhu Pa)!Heee :)

Junk Food Heaven - Cadbury Peppermint Chocolate

I don't think Chocolate is my favorite junk food (coz my mom banned me from liking choco when I was young :P). But then, I might still have some odd one for my favorite, right?

Ever since my hometown was turned into a Duty Tax Free Financial Center, we enjoyed cheap imported chocolate since then. That was the time I first had this Cadbury Peppermint Chocolate! Particularly, it must be Made in Australia. My next favorite from Cadbury family is Dark Chocolate Old Gold Old Jamaica Rum N Raisins.

I used to buy the large bar like this... but each time I won't be able to finish them all, its all depends on my mood. If I crave for it, I will have them. Else if not, it will be rotten or expired.

I got so used to the imported Chocolates, mainly Cadbury large bar from Australia. We can get them about RM8/bar. It was used to be RM7. Other than Cadbury, the other common chocolates are Hershey's Kisses. We can get about RM19-25 for large pack.

New - Pick N' Brew @ One Utama

I was a bit hesitate to blog this, kinda feel many food blogger had blogged this hang out place. Furthermore, today is a weekday... I seldom blog and write on a weekday. Somehow, not sure why, I had some mixed feelings today. Kinda due to work, I hope I will have a smooth sailing week ahead :)

OK, back to this newly found hangout place at One Utama... colleagues and I had been enjoy happy hour'ing lately on Friday. It was difficult to get the right hangout crowd, but was fun to have one!

As it named, you are right... you could pick and choose from the variety of beans to brew your own coffee!! But, we didn't try this time... coz....

we barely had only 30min to enjoy the place and coffee, arrived close to 10pm, it closes 10.30pm on a Friday night. I didn't have coffee that night, was a bit worry if I could not enjoy my weekend sleep... so I had Choco Mint. My favorite mint, I will normally have Mint Coffee @ Winter Warmers!

This particular cafe suits us, in a way we have someone whom like Irish coffee the most! Others will hunt for... i.e. the 'environment' - particularly the sofas and chairs, foods, interesting cum quality beverage, creative, etc...

In summary, the place was good, within expectation.

DIY - Papaya Enzyme (木瓜酵素) The Making

There had been quite a number of fruit enzyme posts that I had posted here, here and this too. Anyway, I would wish to keep a record of those I have done, especially if I would have the chance to capture its process and picture.

Good to share around some tips and learnings (if there is any).

Before we start, let's take a look what is papaya. Find out more here, in case you are not sure. Basically its a type of tropical fruit which is very common in South East Asia countries. It's easy to plant, I remember having them at my home backyard when I was young. Dad will teaches us to take care of our own papaya plant, sis and I have one each. Unfortunately, my sis plant (if she remember) was 'murdered' somehow.. hehe.. of course I am not that cruel to kill hers, but was done by some other.

Back to the fruit, I have got this naturally grown fruit from my grandma's home not long ago. Assuming it should be purely organically grown, with all 'natural' fertilizer grown. Best to use not-so-ripe fruits for enzyme making. Therefore, I go for the green one.

Steps of the making, is exactly the same method.. in short summary:
  1. 1. Make sure fruits and utensil are washed and dried up.
  2. 2. Cut papaya into small pieces.
  3. 3. Place some slices of lemon in between.
  4. 4. Place a layer of brown sugar, or oligo sugar. This is another replacement for Oligo, kind of organic Japanese radish sugar. See picture below)
  5. 5. Drip some wild honey after the layer of sugar.
  6. 6. Repeat steps above, till the end of bottle (not too full, give some room in between)
  7. 7. Keep bottle at cool dry place for 2 weeks.
  8. 8. Shake the bottle after day 2-3. Once every 1-2 days.
  9. 9. Sieve the juice and store them in fridge.
  10. 10. Best consume every 1st thing in the morning, with warm water.
* Note : Be extremely careful for keeping your hand and utensils dry, as extra 'water' will cause bacteria growth during fragmentation. Juices from the fruit will be just fine.

A week later it will look like this... bubble will show up, and its time to shake once a while.

Cameron Highlands... conquering you soon!

This blog is written specially for those of you whom will be visiting Cameron Highlands soon. Attaching some pictures taken during our trip last October '07. It was used to be our 'frequent' visit place in Peninsular Malaysia. However, I don't remember visiting the place in 2008. I would say we had missed a company Treasure Hunt trip this year, not sure what happened and we didn't join.... sounds ages ago.

My target for this coming visit will be mainly taking nice pictures around. Probably will try some short journey tracking, kampung visits, and other new cum adventurous things.

The best view in Cameron should be this BOH tea plantation (pictures below) where one can overlook the greenish plantation area, at the same time enjoying the chilling atmosphere with a cup of tea (specifically Boh tea yeah!). Heard from a friend that their scones are nice too, just nice to enjoy an English style tea breakfast. In fact, they serve nice local foods too, like Nasi Lemak.

New - Japanese Apricot Wine (杏露酒)

I bought this mini bottle of wine from Japan during my last business visit in July '08. Heard from my Japanese colleague, Plum and fruits wine is very popular in Japan. As so, I bought them from the Isetan-Apple Supermarket which I used to hang out every night after or before my dinner. :) At times, I even like to pack my dinner from the supermarket, especially when I get so lazy getting out from the hotel after a long long tiring working day.

This particular wine has 14% alcohol... no wonder I feel a bit drunk now :) Its lil apricot tastes really nice. Alcohol gets absorbed even more in soaked fruits.... I remember this was mentioned by an article somewhere.

Tastes great! Indeed a nice fruit wine! Will get more if I ever have the chance to get to Japan again.

Fish in a Squid (Calamari) !

Have you ever seen such scene before? While I was happily preparing my Tom-Yum seafood dinner last night, I encountered such thing in my chopping board. As I was cleaning the calamari, as usual I would have to clear off those inner unwanted stuffs. Somehow, I saw something huge and abnormal.

Guess what? It was a lil FISH! How can it get in there?

Of course it must have been eaten or sucked by the big calamari. What came into my mind, in such case, aren't I have been paying more for the weight of calamari I bought?? Haaa... anyway, not a huge fish.

I am sure some could have seen some other sea creature in one another, example lil baby crab in a shell or something like that. So, this is nothing special.. but indeed it was the first time ever I saw this scene in my kitchen.

Preparation guide:
  • 1) Ready ingredients, i.e. tom-yum paste, lemongrass, onion, dried chilli and boil them in a pot

DIY - Rice Wine (米酒)The Making

It had been a while since the 1st ever rice wine was produced in my home. (Disclaimer : this was produced for own consumption, not meant for commercial).

做法:将纱布放蒸格上,将浸泡好的糯米放纱布上,开火蒸40-50分钟.蒸好后倒入大点的容器凉至温热,用一碗温水将酒饼尽量化开后,(另留开一小勺)一 边将酒饼水倒入凉好的糯米中,一边使劲搅拌糯米,尽量搅拌均匀),搅拌过程中可适量加些温水.搅拌好后装瓶,在中间弄个洞,将留的酒饼水倒入其中,盖好瓶 盖,用厚布包好瓶子,天热一般3-5天,天冷放暖气边,一般一两星期就可以了.好了以后放冰箱冷藏,随吃随取.

The Making of Rice Wine, quick guide and steps
  1. 1) Soak glutinous rice in the water for at least 2 hours
  2. 2) Steam it for 40min. Alternately, you could cook it in the rice cooker.
  3. 3) After steamed/cooked, leave it to cool down
  4. 4) Smash wine cookie (which you could get from most Chinese Medical Hall), add them into the cooked rice.
  5. 5) Place rice into clean and dry jug.
  6. 6) Seal up and keep in cool dry place for 4 weeks

It works! It works! Had my car road tax renewed lately, in fact my due date should be Nov-8 '08. However, the kiasu me have to do this earlier with some glitches found from the unpleasant past experience of the different car....

In case you would like to know, if you or your vehicle happened to be blacklisted in the PDRM or JPJ website, you might not be able to renew your roadtax. In both incidents, we happened to get wrong information tagged into the blacklist system.

  1. 1) Owner's I/C no. was blacklisted, but the vehicle is not owned by him. Worse case, PDRM found out that the I/C no. was tagged to a different guy's name.
  2. 2) Vechicle no. plat was blacklisted, the system showed that this particular vehicle was summoned due an accident, and the vehicle was a lorry (in actual fact, this vehicle is a private car in JPJ system).

Anyway, back to the main topic...

I happened to walked by Sg Wang's Pos Office last week. My lunchmates mentioned about Cash Rebate for vehicle. Usual me, I had almost forgot about the cash rebate thingy, since I am so lazy to queue up in the Pos Office - kinda phobia seeing the usual crowd in KLCC branch.

Anyway, I went over to POS Malaysia website, preparing myself with the usual conventional form to print out. While browsing through for details, I navigated myself to their POSonline website instead.

It was interesting, there is a column for online Cash Rebate! Exactly the service I wanted. Pretty straight forward steps to follow:-
  1. 1. Register yourself, get yourself an id and password
  2. 2. Login
  3. 3. Go to Cash Rebate Online
  4. 4. Fill up your details and vehicle no.
  5. 5. Sit back and wait...
Based on their term and condition, it says it will take 3 days for Bank online processing. However, I got mine ready in 2 days! Not too bad, still within SLO.

But then, I found that their system did not send me email notify me the process had been completed. Not until I checked my bank account.

Anyway, still better than I expected. Since..... my 2008 road tax has yet to due, they had actually able to process it!
