Food Surprises - Mille Crepe @ Food Foundry, PJ Section 17

A friend asked me today.... are you still working? I asked back, why do you say so? Well, I see you been blogging always, writing on foods, wondering around and being so active? Oh well, how should I say.... it's just part a life, there is nothing greater than sharing some part of our personality to our close friends through blogging. Indeed I find it away of communication in the cyber era. Anyway, to answer back his question "Yes, I am still working as a average wage earner".

Back to my subject. This is a place I have heard a lot for its Mille Crepe cake. Since I was around PJ Section 17, I thought of it! Finally... else my mind will be wondering for food during my study era around that area (that's boring!)

I recently tried a slice of Mille Crepe cake @ Huckleberry, Times of Bangsar Shopping Complex. It wasn't up to my expectation, especially after my last taste of Crepe at Bangkok Sathorn's Secret Garden.

Giving this a second chance for my taste of Crepe within the country, and also a failed attempt when I was in Malacca couple of weeks ago. Alright, I knew the place is within Sec 17 Happy Mansion apartment, but which block? Since it sounded like a 'Laundry', indeed I used to send my laundry over those shop during my uni days, thus I stumble into the right block. It's located at the last corner, next to a laundry shop (if I am not mistaken).

We decided to pack-and-go this time, as we just had our lunch. Moreover, the place is rather not-so-comfy during a hot afternoon, as it does not have air-conditioner, environment friendly perhaps. Thus, the decision to have it as afternoon tea back home was perfect!

That was a Mango Mille Crepe (RM10) and a Chocolate Mille Crepe (RM9).... it was sooooo yummy! Perfect! The mango crepe was the best I would believe, as I seen only 2 left at the shop. The Choco Crepe was good too. Indeed, it was a right choice to enjoy afternoon tea like this. I wouldn't complain for my crepe this time :)

Food Surprises - Foh San Dim Sum 富山茶樓, Ipoh

Most in Ipoh should know Foh San Dim Sum. It's famous, really! Even most visitor will know this place for good dim sum, which practically comprise of dumplings and other side dishes at small little plates. However, for the past 5-6 years having a frequent visit to Ipoh, I had never been to this restaurant. Even before, I knew that it had recently moved to somewhere nearby, as the old place was over crowded. Honestly, I have been to its competitor, Ming Court couple of times, but not this.

This renovated Dim Sum Restaurant is much more better, you'd got the feel of stepping into a relaxing morning breakfast, just like when one have Dim Sum in Hong Kong. However, this is slightly more localized. I like the space compared to Ming Court, as it will not cause echo when the place been over crowded. One thing we noticed, we have to be real early to enjoy the morning breeze and less crowd, be there 8am is the best!

These were part of the servings we had.... yummy!

They have got a lot of choices for dish, but one thing I am not very satisfied as most of the dishes are colder than those normally served from the cart or handheld tray, which are practically hot from the steamer. Anyway, environment has compromises the serving, food seems to be nice and lots of variety.

Check out their official website - http://www.fohsan.com.my/, nice website too.

Hmmm... I suddenly thought of dim sum. Should I head over to Sri Petaling one day for it?

Once after breakfast that Saturday when we were in Ipoh, we headed to Ipoh Railway Station for a while. This is a station I like most, peaceful yet convenient, most important it has its heritage scenic view!

Ipoh, the lovely heritage town!

Life . Make it full . Make it happy!

Looking back to my past blog archive, realized I had a month without a single blog in the year 2010! Couldn't believe it, and I browsed through the blogs I wrote between the months of September and November.... I now realized the feelings at that moment (Hmm... documenting diary helps!). Was aiming for more meaningful life, and it was just about life!

It was also at that time, which I missed out blogging my 2nd scuba dive trip to Tenggol Island, Terrenganu last September 2010.

Being a newbie diver wasn't easy here. I remembered the strong current, hmmm...Without knowing, this has brought me looking forward for the 3rd trip of mine *blink blink* in coming days. Stay tune with the next up coming posts.

As I am now holding on to a book, certainly feels that we should grab more meanings in life, making it well appreciated and throwing all worries behind. No one could make a difference for you, except one's self. Few quotes worth sharing from here....

Food Surprises - JJ Cakes' Swiss Rolls, Ipoh

Okie... let's finish my assignment for this weekend. It's to complete my blogging desire. It is important to share this newly discover food in Ipoh. For those who know what's Swiss Roll, this could be the one and only Swiss Roll I had ever tried, being so fine in texture, spongy, and yummy with its cheese cream embedded between the lines. You will be spoilt for choices, there are many flavors available, all comes with healthy fiber fruits or vegetables, i.e. pumpkin, carrot, yam and many many more.

Mind you, I went on a normal weekend Saturday morning last week, there were still plenty of stock in display. However, when I went on the following mid-day... it had been all emptied. Lesson learned is, if you like to have them packed and go on a ride back to the city, you'd better pre-order in advance. :)

Here are some pictures to share. Super love the green tea roll, it has Cashew nut rolled within the Cream Cheese, where else carrot roll has pumpkin seed instead. By the way, as noted by the shopkeeper, there is no preservation added, hence it could last only 3 days.

Menglembu (萬里望), Ipoh Wet Market

This particular Chinese wet market was demanded for major renovation couple of months back, and it was strongly objected by the locals and hawkers. Since I will have an undetermined plan trip for the revisit, or probably it will be demolished by the time I revisit it once again. I am taking this opportunity to snap some retro pictures, in effect of the "olden" look of its moments. Indeed, Ipoh is a place for retirees, as you can see many elderly around the corner :)

This is the main street of Menglembu (萬里望).

Olden days barber shop a.k.a saloon.

Chinese medical hall where I used to buy Home Cafe's White Coffee.

The nearby Coffee Shop which I used to have my White Coffee.

The not-so-wet section of the market.

Ooops... food again. There is when I have to get up early in the morning and skip my morning meals. It is just handy for me to grab whichever I feel like it in the market. I like this traditional bread with pork floss and BBQ slices, current at the price of RM1.20/piece.

The authentic & traditional wall.

Lastly, we dropped by Magnum outlet. I saw this old man aiming for a quick bet, he actually did peep out the window referencing some cars number plates out there. Not sure if he did bought my car number :)

Bye Menglembu Wet market. Will visit you some other time, not sure when.

Ipoh Food - Kong Heng's Popiah

This is gonna be another food blog. I don't intent to write much, guess I am not really a good food eater. Thus, I found my food blog is not as interesting as others. Anyway, I am writing for my own memory! It is gonna be a while, till I next visit Ipoh :( sad. Capturing the current moment, I would say.

I normally dine in at Tin Jun (天津) for their egg caramel custard, pork satay and popiah. Due to limited chance and time for me to taste everything over a weekend, we decided to pack-and-go. I was then able to take some pictures, as well explains below.

The store is just on the left, 2nd row.

In action...

end product...

Forgot to mention, Tin Jun is just next door and they both share the stalls and customers.

Guess I don't need to supply the coffee shop's information, after all it is well found in most food blogs and GPS Point of Interest. :)

Food Surprises - Menglembu Ipoh Portuguese Egg Tart

This is one of the bakery shop we used to stumble into for its Portuguese Egg Tart (葡逹). My mom introduced this many years ago, where Menglembu been a place they used to hangout a lot, main attraction is the conventional old wet market (I will blog on it when free).

Though for some reason, this egg tart is nothing attractive, nor its presentation may not be a upper class restaurant or coffee shop standard. In order to appreciate such well done small enterprise bakery shop, I decided to introduce them with a few lines. Unlike most famous food stalls in Ipoh, they had been given free advertising by bloggers these days. That's why I had been holding on a blog on a famous Kaya Puff shop at new town Ipoh, for quite some time. They don't worth anymore introduction, as though their Kaya puffs been nice, but their service attitude is rather below standard. Their customer service process really need a serious improvement.

Alright, back to this lovely Portuguese Egg Tart... yumm, I like its egg custard the most, plus its pastry, which unlike traditional egg tart pastry. It's soft and its the puff type.

Food Surprises - Seremban Yi Poh Noodles & Asia Confectionary Siew Pao

It was supposed to be a Malacca day, but somewhat the destination did not turn out to be attractive. All plans were not moving well, as the weather was just too hot. Yeah, it was a couple of weeks ago, where we were supposed to hit down to Malacca for some photography assignment. We just passed it out!

It then went by as a food trip instead. Malacca's food was rather a disappointment that time. It was a super peak weekend, and the taste of Chicken Rice Ball was rather disappointed. What I only remember was 三叔公's Durian Cendol.

Contrary, the journey back was rather more interesting. We stopped by Seremban for lunch and packed for tea. Discovered this so-called famous rice noodle a.k.a. lou shu fan (老鼠粉) from my GPS. The noodle was rather so-so, but interestingly, the pork ball was rather huge! ... and tasty too. Its taste was not too bad, and not too pricy.

Directly opposite Yi Poh Noodle, there is this confectionery which seems very famous among the locals. Saw many customers waiting for their orders, and they are mainly packed in huge volumes... there are mainly Siew Pao (baked dumplings).

We bought only 5 pieces of pork favour, mainly for testing purposes. Tested them after arriving home, it was yummy! Not too sure when will be the next time I will have the chance to taste this again :) *hint hint*

Rattan Furniture @ Gunung Rapat, Ipoh

My life has been relatively interesting these days, I would say I am 'flooded' with all kinds of new gadgets, in a month or two, I had upgraded most of my electronic tools :D. However, I gotta adjust myself with new operating system, totally new computing system. By now, you would know which OS I am now into, the Apple's Mac! I gotto learn brand new applications to suit my everyday lifestyle. A friend told me, you will love it! Honestly, I have started to love it... life wouldn't be perfect without its clear & beautiful screen.

Okie, that's all for a little introduction of my new toy. It was rather challenging for me to start blogging with this mackie, a name I gave him. Minor photo editing, photo resizing, typing, etc... I had to search and learn all over again :) bare with me, will slowly get it there.

On my latest trip back to Ipoh... (Ipoh oh Ipoh, I gonna miss you!) We stumbled into a rattan furniture shop as my mom wanted a rattan chair. And we being we, ended up with something rather unnecessary :D, another accessories for my home - the Rattan Swing Chair!

Here are the pictures and some light introduction of the rattan furniture shop. It is worth a visit if you are a rattan lover.
